Fees and Government Subsidies

The cost of eye examinations vary depending on your age and the services you require.  Feel free to contact us to discuss our fees.

There are a variety of funding options available that you may be eligible for to help pay for your examination and glasses. We are also happy to do quotes for WINZ and insurance claims.

Enable Funding

If you have a Community Services card you may be eligible for Enable funding for any children up to 15 years old. .

The five areas that can be accessed under the subsidy are:

• Examination
• Frame
• Lenses
• Eye patches
• Repairs

The subsidy amount is $281.25 with a further $50 available for children that require an adult sized frame.

Eligibility:

• The child must be 15 years old or younger.
• The parent or guardian must have a valid Community Services card.
• The child must have had an examination with an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist that is registered with Enable Funding New Zealand.
• The child's subscription must be from an optometrist or ophthalmologist that is registered with Enable New Zealand who has determined that spectacles are required to enable the child to achieve a higher quality of vision.
• The child must have a disability as defined by the Ministry of Health; “A person with a disability is a person who has been identified as having a physical, intellectual, sensory or age-related disability (or a combination of these) which is likely to continue for a minimum of six months and result in a reduction of independent function to the extent that ongoing support is required”.

Health Benefits

Health Benefits is a subsidy for people who cannot wear spectacles for medical reasons and need to wear contact lenses for vision correction. This predominately applies to those patients who have a condition called keratoconus. These patients require correction with special hard contact lenses because they are unable to get good quality vision with spectacles alone.

The subsidy varies as to whether the person is claiming for new contact lenses due to a change in prescription or due to loss or damage.
